Whenever people ask me to give them advice about which costumes to select for their next dress up occasion, I always suggests Indian or Native American Costumes and my reasoning is very simple. Indian costumes are fun, they are colorful, there is a huge variety to choose from and they are a way of paying homage to the natives who roamed the vast lands of North and South America, which also happens to be where I live at the moment.
It seems that many costumes tend to be good for some occasion but not so for others. That, however, is not the case when it comes to Indian or Native American costumes. In fact, Indian and Native American costumes are multi-purpose as they fit right into a variety of occasions which include American Independence Day on 4th of July, Thanksgiving which is celebrated in the U.S. and Canada, Columbus Day and, of course, Halloween, the Mardi Gras, school plays, parades, masquerades, and so on. Because the demand for these costumes is so high, designers and manufacturers have made a huge variety available for everyone: adult men and women ranging from regular to plus sizes as well as boys and girls of all ages.
I would like to veer away from costumes for a few minutes and take a closer look at the Native American or Indian people themselves.
So, Indians or Native American are the indigenous people of the Americas and they consist of very many distinctly different tribes, nations, and ethnic groups. As a matter of fact the list is so long that it is impossible to include within the confines of this small article.
Now I would like to get back to my original statement about recommending that people choose an Indian or a Native American costume to wear at whichever occasion that is available to them.
