Maternity Costumes – 7 Great Costumes For You To Wear
Maternity Costumes? Really? These are two of responses I sometimes get when talking about my costume ideas. It’s amazing how many think that it’s to difficult or even impossible to dress up when pregnant.
It’s simply just not the case. If anything it’s much more fun and allows you to be much more creative as the belly now opens up a world of new possibilities.
A great example of a very quick and easy costume to make is the pea pod. Wear all green and make a vertical slit on your shirt or sweater. Paint the belly green and people will be able to see the pea inside the pod. It’s great idea.
Another great idea is the pregnant man. Im sure you have read about him or even seen him on Oprah and now you can make sure he will join the party. Put on a mustache, dress like a man your all set.
The Fish Bowl. I personally love this one. Paint a fish (or two) on your belly and some bubbles. If you are really in a creative mood then perhaps even a treasure chest or a plant. Then just wear a white or light blue shirt that is a bit see-through.
Flower Child – Hippie. We all know the dress code. Loud prints, wild hair, funky pants. then simply paint a peace sing on your belly or a smiley face.
Watermelon Farmer. Paint your belly like a watermelon. Green with light green stripes. Then just dress like a typical farmer would.
Now let’s get a bit more noughty. How about you dress like a catholic school girl, wearing a nice shirt, tie and a short skirt. Your hubby can be the priest. That’s a couples costume that will raise some eyebrows.
If you want to show off your great pregnant figure and the weather is nice (or the party is indoors) then a beach queen is a great idea. Just wear your bikini and paint the belly like a beach ball. Then you can carry the beach ball around at the party!
There is of course an easier way of doing things, especially if you are getting close to labor. You could buy a maternity costume rather than creating one. It’s not as expensive as one might think. You can get a great costume for as little as $30-$40.
