First, check your community’s calendar online or in the local newspaper. Often, the community is already organizing an activity. They may be looking for volunteers to help for free items and discounts.

If the community bulletin board doesn’t have activities that interest your family, consider organizing your own, such as a pumpkin carving contest or trunk or treating.

Trunks or treats are a fun alternative for your children. Get a group together in a neighborhood or parking lot, open up your car trunks and have your children go from trunk to trunk gathering candy. You would be surprised how popular this has become just within the past couple years.

Trunk or tricks are a great way for church communities to celebrate Halloween. Instead of focusing on the negative side of it, you can show how fun and safe it can be for your children. You also wont have to spend hours walking around the neighborhood with your children because you can simply watch them from your own car trunk as you hand out candy as well.

Also, check local mall listings for their trick or treating events. Many stores will hand out candy to young children who are dressed for Halloween. Yet, another way to reserve time and energy while still enjoying Halloween.

You can also check out local radio and media outlets. Many have fun Halloween parties and activities for children young and old. They usually offer free candy and give away prizes too!
